The Flagstaff City Council had a busy agenda for the meeting last night. Council passed a resolution that declares a housing crisis in the City of Flagstaff. The vote passed 5-2 with councilmembers McCarthy and Aslan opposing. The ordinance would prioritize affordable housing within city operations over the next ten years to create safe, decent and affordable housing opportunities for all community members. It also includes ways the city can encourage more economically priced housing construction by the private sector to address workforce needs. Mayor Coral Evans says the housing situation is an emergency due to Flagstaff being six-thousand housing units short. Council also unanimously agreed to change Agassiz Street to WC Riles Street.
