The Flagstaff City Council met Tuesday evening to discuss and consider various grants and resolutions. The discussion regarding road closures downtown to allow for expanded business space continued from last week. The expanded business space downtown will include safety regulations and require permits for businesses selling alcohol. Council authorized the acquisition of five more parcels of land necessary for the Clay Wash portion of the Rio de Flag flooding project. An automotive sales tax rebate program with the goal to further the city’s climate goals was adopted, in addition to job rebate and business incentive programs. An incentive that would reimburse new businesses moving to the city up to $15,000 will be implemented. State and federal grants for local criminal justice amounting to about $450,000 were accepted, funding one Flagstaff police sergeant and one investigator. Council will now be on summer break until mid-August.
