The Flagstaff City Council held the first day of their two-day budget retreat on Thursday. Throughout the day, council heard updates on a number of issues including city pensions. City Management Services Director Rick Tadder said that the city now has enough funding for 100 percent of the pensions, and encouraged budget adjustments to raise funding to 105 percent, a measure the council supported. In addition, the council also supported moving the city’s recession plan to its lowest point of “minor,” from its second level of “moderate” on a five-point scale. Council will continue its budget retreat on Friday, where it will discuss relief funding from the CARES act, as well as policing. Thursday’s discussion on the police department raised concerns about high turnover among police officers.
