The Big Sky Conference has announced that all fall sports have been postponed at its member schools until the spring. The conference decided last week to push football back, but today announced the move to push them all back to the spring. The conference cited ongoing concerns related to COVID-19 as the reason for the decision. This means cross country, volleyball, golf and men’s and women’s tennis are pushed back. The NAU swimming and diving team will also not compete at least through the end of October, after a decision was made Thursday by the Western Athletic Conference. NAU athletic director Mike Marlow says “I have great empathy for our coaches and student-athletes who have prepared much of their lives to be able to compete and coach in Division I athletics.” Marlow added, “the combined efforts of our student-athletes, coaches and staff to prepare during great adversity for their recently canceled seasons is a strong point of pride for all associated, in anyway, with NAU Athletics.” Decisions on winter sports, such as indoor track and field and basketball will be made at a later date.
