The annual Nationwide Emergency Alert Test will take place Wednesday. At 11:20 a.m. Arizona time, FEMA and the FCC are planning to send out test messages to television, radio and cell phones that have opted-in to receive the alerts. The emergency alert signal will last about five minutes. The purpose of the test is to ensure that the EAS and WEA systems continue to be an effective means of warning the public about emergencies, particularly national ones.
