A 16-year-old girl was fatally shot Sunday afternoon in Chino Valley. Yavapai County Sheriff’s officials say a group drove out to an area off Perkinsville Road, east of Chino Valley to have a party and drink at around 3:15 p.m. Nineteen-year-old Jonathan Rice, from Chino Valley, was in possession of a hand gun and had been firing it randomly. At one point, while the group was inside the bed of the pickup truck, Rice fired a round that struck Aneesa Williams in the head. An off-duty police officer happened upon the scene and wasn’t able to contact authorities because there was no cell service at the site. By the time the officer was able to call for help, the girl died at the scene. Three males were detained on site, but only Rice was arrested and charged with second degree murder. He remains in the Camp Verde Detention Center. Bond has not yet been set. The case remains under investigation and additional charges may be filed.
