Yavapai County Sheriff’s investigators have made an arrest in connection with the discovery of human remains near Prescott recently. Deputies were called to an area off Contreras Road, North of Iron Springs Road where human remains were found Saturday. Then additional remains were found Sunday in the Camp Wood area off Williamson Valley, northwest of Prescott. Using evidence recovered from the scene, detectives discovered the remains were likely connected to a business based in Seattle, Washington, identified as “Future GenX.” Fifty-nine-year-old Walter Mitchell owned the business, which involved the management of cadavers for research and had recently closed. Working with local police in the Seattle area, detectives obtained information that Mitchell left Seattle in 2020 with human remains belonging to five people. Detectives traced Mitchell’s travels to the Prescott/Chino Valley area and then recently to Scottsdale where he was contacted and arrested Tuesday morning. Mitchell’s motivation for his actions are unknown. Mitchell has been booked on 28 counts of knowingly moving a dead body or body parts with the intent to abandon or conceal them. He is being held without bond.
