A new study shows Cottonwood is one of the safest cities in Arizona, while Flagstaff is one of the most unsafe cities. A new report by backgroundchecks.org lists the safest cities in Arizona based on the most recent FBI crime statistics. They created the list based on violent crime rates, property crimes and law enforcement officials per one-thousand people. Out of 40 cities, Cottonwood was ranked fifth. Officials with the website say Cottonwood benefits from a large ratio of police officers to residents, which is nearly five per one-thousand people. Other Northern Arizona cities on the list include: Prescott Valley 16th, Camp Verde 19th, Prescott 28th and Flagstaff 35th. The safest city was Paradise Valley, while the worst was Tucson. The site does say Arizona as a state is one of the safest in the country, with property and violent crime rates below the national average.
