The Democratic leader of the Arizona House of Representatives is calling for a special session to consider gun reform and safety. Yuma Representative Charlene Fernandez is calling for the session after this past weekend’s mass shootings in El Paso and Dayton. She took to Twitter yesterday says she wants to enact background checks, bans on military-style assault rifles, limits on high-capacity magazines and other gun safety legislation to “protect Arizonans.” To enact a special session either Governor Doug Ducey calls for one or two-thirds of each chamber must agree to it. There’s no word from the governor’s office if he is considering Fernandez’s call or not.
