Coconino National Forest officials are planning to reduce the closure area around Mt. Elden Wednesday that was put in place back in January so forest thinning operations could be done safely. Access to Schultz Pass Road, Elden Lookout Road and most of the trails in and around Mt. Elden will reopen. However, motorized vehicles won’t be allowed on Schultz Pass or Elden Lookout roads due to large logging trucks and equipment will be using the roads to haul lumber. Mountain bikers and hikers should use caution when using open trails, as no maintenance has been completed since last year and forest debris may be scattered across some of the trails. The Brookbank, Schultz Creek and Upper Oldham trails will continue to be closed as work continues in those areas.
