Snowpack Around Arizona Remains Below Normal For The Season

Read More News at >>

Even with recent snowfalls in Northern Arizona, snowpack levels are still well below normal. According the U.S. Department of Agriculture, as of February 15th, snow water equivalent levels in the state’s major river basins range from 78 percent of median in the Verde River Basin to 29-percent of median in the Salt River Basin. The San Francisco Peaks is currently seeing 72-percent of normal snowpack, with a statewide average of 55-percent. The mid-month forecast calls for well below normal runoff in all basins for the spring runoff period. If Northern Arizona’s snowpack doesn’t improve, it could mean we see an active fire season.
