Smoke From Area Lightning-Caused Fires Drifts Into Flagstaff

A couple of lightning-caused fires blew smoke into the Flagstaff area over the weekend. The brunt of the smoke came from the Saber Fire that’s currently burning northwest of Sedona. The fire has burned nearly 600 acres 15 miles southwest of Flagstaff. The fire is being used to burn off fuels in the forest, however crews did some backburning over the weekend to keep the fire away from power lines. That operation created more smoke that blew into the city. Another fire, the Boulin Fire, is burning nine miles north of Parks. That fire has burned over 24-hundred acres and is 20-percent contained. Crews on that fire are also managing the fire for forest health. Smoke from both fires will be able to be seen from around the area, and at times, could drift into Flagstaff over the next few days.
