Slash Hauling Begins On The Flagstaff Watershed Protection Project

National Forest

The Coconino National Forest has started the Midway project of the longer ongoing Flagstaff Watershed Protection Project. The objective of the Midway project is to move slash from the previous FWPP Steep Slope project to a designated area near Schultz Pass for future pile burning. The slash will be deposited off Forest Road 420 east of Forest Road 556. Forest Service contractors will be operating large trucks and heavy equipment during the slash removal process in several areas, including along Little Gnarly Trail and near the Sunset trailhead. Vehicles that will be used for slash removal are larger and less maneuverable than standard highway trucks, and motorists and pedestrians are asked to watch for oversized equipment and use caution while in the area. Slash removal will occur throughout the duration of the Midway project, which will run throughout the remainder of the year and into March 2022.
