A sewage spill sent between 15-and-20-thousand gallons of effluent into Oak Creek in Sedona Tuesday. Sedona officials say sometime between 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. an accident occurred with the State Route 179 Sewer Main Replacement Project that is currently under construction. The untreated liquid came out of a manhole in front of the Hillside Sedona Shopping Center and flowed into a storm drain, which then drained into the creek about 750 feet downstream from the Highway 179 bridge that runs over Oak Creek. Kinney Construction Services, who is the contractor on the project, contained and disinfected the area at around 8:30 p.m. Work has been temporarily suspended on the project until the contractor develops a plan to ensure a spill doesn’t happen again. Water tests have come back negative for E.coli in Oak Creek after the spill.
