A series of severe thunderstorms brought heavy rain, hail and impressive lightning through some of Flagstaff late Sunday. The first storm popped up just south of Flagstaff in the Mountainaire area and moved into the city. Then another cell developed right behind the first one, and brought even more rain and lightning to the city. Then a third cell developed and went through the Doney Park area. Luckily, the heavier amounts of rain fell in areas away from the local burn scars. Nearly three inches of rain fell at Foxglenn Park, over two inches of rain fell at Route 66 at Main Street and about an inch and three-tenths of rain fell in the Flagstaff Mall area. Most of the rain fell in about an hour’s time. Just shy of an inch of rain fell in the Timberline area, but flooding with minor compared to previous days. We will have a good chance of showers and thunderstorms Monday, then the chances will go down Tuesday and Wednesday.
