Rio De Flag Crossing At Slayton Ranch Road Reopens After Nearly Four Months Closed

The Rio de Flag Crossing at Slayton Ranch Road has reopened after being closed for less than four months.  The old crossing was washed away in March due to heavy snowmelt flows down the Rio.  The $552-thousand project features an upsized drainage structure to better accommodate heavy flows in the future.  The project broke ground in May and includes a cast-in-place concrete arch structure under Slayton Ranch Road.  Also installed were headwalls and water inlet and outlet protection. Coconino County Public Works Director and County Engineer Christopher Tressler says: “Although the washout was certainly unfortunate, it did provide us with a great opportunity to work together to analyze what happened and then expedite construction of a better crossing for residents.” Temporary guardrails will remain in place until permanent guardrail is installed.  Motorists are asked to watch their speed and use caution while traveling over the new crossing.
