A candidate for Congress in District One has suspended his campaign after he overdosed on heroin last week. Safford City Councilman and CD 1 candidate Chris Taylor said in a statement on his Facebook page that he is seeking treatment for an opioid addiction he has had since high school. Taylor is a combat veteran who served in the U.S. Army Special Operations Forces. He said “I’m not going to hide from this. I’m not ashamed of what happened.” He added, “I don’t know what went wrong. I recently relapsed after having so many years in sobriety.” Taylor says he fully intends to cooperate with local authorities on any matters regarding his relapse and will seek treatment. John Moore, Nolan Reidhead, Tiffany Shedd and Juan Smith remain candidates for CD1 on the Republican side. Tom O’Halleran currently holds the Congressional seat and is running for re-election on the Democratic ticket.
