A chance of rain is in the forecast through Thursday in Northern Arizona. The hope is it will do some good in fighting area wildfires. National Weather Service meteorologist Darren McCollum says we will likely see widespread showers on Wednesday then a chance of more of a “monsoon thunderstorm” chance on Thursday. McCollum says the chances of rain stretch from Alpine to the Kaibab Plateau. He says they are expecting “a tenth of an inch to a quarter of an inch locally and that extends down to Payson and the Prescott area.” He says we do need more rain. “We need a surprise and not a bust, we need a rain that says it rained a quarter inch.” After Thursday it will dry out again, but only for a short time as showers and thunderstorms return to the forecast on Sunday and into next week.
