A wildfire burned over three acres in west Flagstaff, near the railroad tracks Tuesday. The “Railroad Fire” started about a half-mile south of Lowell Observatory, on City of Flagstaff land. The blaze was reported by the Elden Lookout at 2:08 p.m. Numerous fire crews converged to area to attack the fire, while Flagstaff Police officers went to nearby homes to alert residents. Railroad Springs, West Kaibab Lane, Westglen Mobile Home Park, Mars Hill and surrounding areas were placed in “SET” status for the time being, but were reduced to “READY” status a couple of hours after the fire started. The fire is now fully contained. Flagstaff Police are seeking information related to a person possibly involved in the fire’s start. Witnesses told police they saw a juvenile to young adult aged white or light skinned Hispanic male, wearing a white T-shirt leaving the area in an unknown make or model, white Dually pickup truck leaving the adjacent access roads going east. There’s no word on how the fire started or if there were any structures lost in the blaze.
