Fire Managers of the Bradshaw Ranger District will begin the Lower Wolf Creek prescribed burn on Friday. The burn, which will run through Sunday, will be made of three units, totaling roughly 16-hundred acres. The burns will take place seven miles south of Prescott, along County Road 101 near Lower Wolf Creek Campground. Smoke can be expected to impact areas around Groom Creek, Ponderosa Park, and possibly Wilhoit. A helicopter may be used for aerial ignition on the larger areas. Hikers are asked to avoid trails in the nearby area. The burn will reduce fuels, restore wildlife habitat, and improve forest health. Areas treated with prescribed fires can positively impact future fire intensity and smoke effects.
