Prescott Valley Police Warn Residents Of A COVID-19 Scam

Prescott Valley Police are warning residents of a new scam involving the COVID-19/Coronavirus pandemic. Officials say scammers are taking this opportunity to capitalize on the virus to conduct a scam in the community. Police have received more and more reports of suspects calling citizens, posing as agents of various government agencies and offering services for COVID-19 relief. To protect yourself from scammers, remember if you’re not sure the caller or sender is real, look up the phone number that’s calling you if possible. Caller ID is easily spoofed. Just because it says it’s from a legit company or agency, it may not be. Also, if you are asked for a payment with a wire transfer, cash-reload card or gift card, it’s a scam. No reputable business will want to be paid by gift cards. If you receive one of these calls, hang up and call police. In Prescott Valley call (928) 772-9267.
