Prescott Valley Police are saying goodbye to retired K9 Jake, who passed away at 13 years old. Jake came to PVPD in 2013 from the Oxnard Police Department, where he already won a medal of merit award when Jake took down a robbery suspect as the person fired several shots at Jake. After Oxnard Police downsized their K9 program, Jake came to Prescott Valley and was paired with Officer Dave McNally, now with Chino Valley Police and later Officer Layton Cooper. With the public, Jake was mellow and was loved by many. While at work, officials say he was all business. He was credited for numerous drug busts, arresting suspects and was credited for saving a man determined to commit “suicide by cop.” Jake lived with Officer Cooper after they retired.
