Prescott Police Find A Missing Child Who Had Locked Himself In A Car

Prescott Police found a missing three-year-old boy locked in a vehicle Wednesday afternoon. Police were called to the 400 block of South Overland Drive at around 12:30 p.m. regarding the missing child. Officials say the child was last seen playing in the common room area of the home. His mother checked on him about 15 minutes later and she wasn’t able to find him. Officers searched through the house, ultimately locating the boy locked inside a vehicle right outside the home. The boy was sitting motionless in the driver’s seat and non-responsive to officers. Officers then noticed the keys were also locked inside the car. An officer used a window punch on his knife to break the front passenger side window. The child was taken from the car and looked at by Prescott firefighters. It was determined he was in good condition. The boy was not inside the car for an extended period of time. Investigators say the boy placed a box on a chair and unlocked the chain latch opening the sliding glass door. The child was able to access the car keys which were hanging near the latch before exiting the house.
