Prescott National Forest crews responded to a wildfire 12 miles south of Prescott near Palace Station Wednesday. Firefighters and crews arrived at the “Yankee Doodle Fire” at 4:40 p.m., which was an estimated five to ten acres. Because of the time of day, firefighters could only initial minimal suppression acts on the fire Wednesday and plan to gain full containment Thursday. Smoke might be visible from various locations such as Wilhoit, Mayer, and Prescott Valley, but there are no immediate threats. There’s no word on how the fire started. Prescott National Forest officials remind the public that one less spark is one less wildfire. For more updates, head to the Prescott National Forest’s website.
