The Blue Ridge Unified School District has announced the three suspects in connection with last Sunday’s assault on a 19-year-old have withdrawn from Blue Ridge High School. Police say Joey Jaurique was attacked by two teenage boys at Show Low Lake after being lured their by a 17-year-old girl. He was airlifted to a Phoenix hospital but has since been released and is recovering at home. At least one of the attackers was a member of the Blue Ridge High School football team and all three suspects were in school last week. That discovery sparked outrage from parents and students, which led to a protest outside the school last Wednesday. Show Low Police are recommending the three be charged with aggravated assault disfigurement and conspiracy, with an added suggestion of a facilitation charge for the girl. District officials also say the FBI is now involved in the investigation. As of last week Show Low Police were still investigating the incident and hadn’t turned the case over to the Navajo County Attorney’s Office for formal charging. District officials canceled classes the last four days due to threats to the schools. Officials say school is resuming Tuesday after an investigation into the threats revealed no credible pending threats.
