Scammers are going after Prescott Valley residents again. Prescott Valley Police say they have recently received calls from victims who have been scammed. People are being contacted by seemingly legitimate companies who have made unverifiable claims about the security of the person’s information or claims their information has been released to the “dark web.” The threat often claims the victim will lose their bank accounts and other financial assets. The victim is told to send a payment, usually consisting of a large amount of money paid by prepaid cards such as Greendot, Netspend or others. Remember, no reputable business is going to ask a person to send untraceable money or asked to be paid in gift cards of any sort. If you receive one of these calls, do not send them money, but try to get as much information from them as possible and then call police.
