Phoenix Woman Hoisted Off Humphries Peak After Suffering A Severe Ankle Injury Saturday

Coconino County Search and Rescue crews were involved in a call involving an injured hiker on Humphrey’s Peak Saturday. Sheriff’s officials say a 49-year-old Phoenix woman fell during her descent from the peak and sustained an unstable ankle injury. Due to her location, weather, terrain and the extent of her injury, authorities called for the DPS helicopter. Crews treated her and sheltered her from a passing thunderstorm and when the storm cleared, the helicopter conducted a hoist operation to pluck her off the mountain and to waiting medical personnel. She was transported to Flagstaff Medical Center for treatment. Authorities remind outdoor users to be prepared for your trip. Research trail conditions, have the required equipment and watch the weather. Also leave detailed trip plans with a trusted person.
