Payson Police stopped arrested a man Sunday, who was making threats with a gun toward residents in a front yard. Officers were called to an area of West Rim View Drive at around 7:20 p.m. When they arrived on the scene, the suspect had left the area. At around 7:58 p.m., off duty officers reported a suspicious man in the food truck festival at Rumsey Park. The person was wearing body armor, had knives, a handgun and multiple AR-15 magazines. It was determined the man in the park, was the same person who was making threats. The person was confronted by responding officers as he was walking to an ATV he had parked close to the festival. Initially the man wasn’t compliant, but was taken into custody without further incident. Officers found an AR-15 inside the ATV. Officers charged 26-year-old Matthew Motzkus of Star Valley with aggravated assault relating to the prior incident. He was also charged with possession of firearms by a prohibited possessor and misconduct involving body armor. The case remains under investigation.
