Oregon Man Arrested After He Chased After Three Men With An Axe And Machete On I-40 Thursday

A man was arrested Thursday after he attacked three men with an axe and machete as he was attempting to steal gas from one of the victim’s vehicle with a hi-lift jack. Yavapai County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a call regarding a fight involving someone with an axe and a machete on Interstate-40 at Crookton Road west of Ash Fork. A deputy arrived and found four men at the scene and a truck blocking a vehicle that was lifted on a jack. The deputy proceeded to put them all on the ground at gunpoint to control the situation until more deputies arrived. State Troopers and additional deputies arrived and started to interview the men. The suspect, 41-year-old Jason Boyd from Oregon, admitted to attempting to steal gas from the vehicle owned by one of the three men at the scene. When the three interrupted Boyd, he began chasing them with the jack. He eventually dropped the jack and grabbed the axe and machete from his trailer and continued the chase. In the process he struck and broke one of the vehicle’s windshields with the axe. Boyd was arrested on two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, four counts of endangerment and one count of criminal damage.
