Mask mandates will cease to be, for now, beginning Monday in certain areas of Flagstaff. The Flagstaff City Council decided Tuesday that since CDC guidelines have changed, and Coconino County is now in “medium” spread, masks will no longer be required starting on Monday, March 7th. Buildings that will no longer require a mask for entry include City Hall, the Visitors Center, Flagstaff Aquaplex, the Hal Jensen Recreation Center, the Jay Lively Ice Arena, and public libraries. Although mask mandates have been lifted throughout the city, masks are still required at Flagstaff Pulliam Airport, since this facility is governed by requirements from the federal Transportation Security Administration. Northern Arizona University is also making mask-wearing on campus optional starting Monday. NAU released a statement Thursday saying due to new adjustments to community levels, NAU campuses in Low or Medium COVID levels can go to optional masking, with the exception when riding NAU buses, at the NAU Fieldhouse testing and vaccination site, or at Campus Health Services and other clinical health care settings, where masking will still be mandatory. According to the latest COVID numbers from Coconino County, the county’s community COVID level remains medium.
