One Person Killed After Attacking A Couple Near Gray Mountain North Of Flagstaff

A man is dead after attacking a couple and falling off their car near Gray Mountain on Highway 89 north of Flagstaff. Coconino County Sheriff’s deputies and state troopers responded to the scene Monday at around 1:34 p.m. and closed the highway in both directions. Officials say a couple from Arkansas was traveling south on Highway 89 when they stopped to assist a vehicle that looked like it was involved in an accident. When the couple approached the vehicle, a male suspect from that vehicle ran at them with one hand behind his back. The man was armed with a knife and jumped on top of the victim’s car and began to break the sunroof. The suspect and the male victim were involved in a struggle, while the female attempted to drive away. While the couple were trying to drive off, the vehicle swerved and the suspect fell off the car. During that time, the car traveled about a half mile at speeds between 60 and 70 miles per hour. When deputies arrived they saw the suspect’s body in the middle of the road with multiple injuries and heavy bleeding. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The male victim was treated at the scene and was taken to Flagstaff Medical Center. The female victim was treated and released on the scene. The suspect’s wife was taken in for questioning. The incident remains under investigation.
