One person was killed after a fatal collision involving a bicyclist early Monday morning in Flagstaff. Police say the accident happened at around 3 a.m. in the area of the 35-hundred block of East Soliere Avenue. When officers arrived they found the victim, 23-year-old Erich Renz, dead at the scene. Investigators says Renz was riding his bicycle westbound, in the bicycle lane, when he was hit by a 2002 Jeep Cherokee. Authorities believe the Jeep left the roadway and rolled after hitting a light pole. The driver fled the scene through a nearby field. Officers took 36-year-old Nathan Kaniatobe from Flagstaff, into custody and then took him to Flagstaff Medical Center for treatment from injuries suffered from the accident. He was booked into the Coconino County Detention Center for failure to remain at the scene of a collision involving death, felony criminal damage and an aggravated assault warrant. Investigators continue to look into the incident.
