One Person Is Dead After A Five-Hour Standoff With CCSO Deputies And SWAT Negotiators

One person is dead after Coconino County Sheriff’s deputies were involved in a standoff with a suspect in Winona, east of Flagstaff Thursday night. Officials say deputies went to an address in the Winona area, at around 6:46 p.m., in an attempt to arrest a man with an active felony warrant for a probation violation. When they arrived, 57-year-old Russell McCrory refused to come out of the small motorhome he was in. McCrory pulled a gun and continued to refuse to cooperate with deputies on scene, stating to the deputies that he wasn’t going to be taken into custody and didn’t want to go to jail. Prior to finding McCrory, Flagstaff Police took a report back on April 5th who stated the man made statements about “bringing his .45 into court and blow everyone away” and threatened to “kill both of his parole officers.” After unsuccessful attempts to get McCrory to come out unarmed, SWAT members were called in, along with negotiators. After about five hours, SWAT deployed tear gas into the motorhome. Shortly thereafter a single gunshot was heard from inside. McCrory was found with a fatal gunshot wound. The case is under investigation.
