Olney, Begay Named To 4A Grand Canyon First Team For Boys Basketball

Coconino’s backcourt combo of Preston Olney and Jacob Begay were named to the 4A Grand Canyon Region First Team Friday. The duo lead the Panthers in scoring and are the two best defenders on the team. Olney was recognized for his defense, taking home 4A Grand Canyon Region Defensive Player of the Yeary. Manuel Cardoza and Hayden Nez were named honorable mention. Flagstaff Eagles Nick Sneezy and Nick Morrow were named to the all-4A Grand Canyon Region Second Team and Max Fritsch and Josh Lenners were named honorable mention. Prescott head coach Travis Stedman was named region Coach of the Year and Bradshaw Mountain guard Carter John was named offensive player of the year and region MVP. Coconino will play Mesquite at home Saturday night in the 4A quarterfinals. Bradshaw Mountain will take on top-seeded St. Mary’s, also on Saturday.
