Ninth-Ranked Montana’s Stifling Defense Shuts Down NAU In The Jacks’ Home Football Finale Saturday

The NAU Lumberjacks couldn’t get into an offensive rhythm as they fell to ninth-ranked Montana, 30-3, in the regular season home finale in the Skydome Saturday. The Jacks were without their top two quarterbacks, R.J. Martinez and Jeff Widener, due to knee injuries suffered last week against UC-Davis. NAU’s defense was solid in the first quarter, holding Montana to just 33 total yards. However, from the second quarter on, Montana had nearly 400 yards of offense. The Grizzlies defense sacked NAU quarterbacks five times and had three interceptions, one for a touchdown. NAU was held to just 155 yards of total offense and under 100 yards passing and didn’t get into the red zone. Niko Haen started the game and was 10-of-20 for 79 yards and two interceptions. Cale Millen came in and was 4-of-11 for 20 yards and a pick in the loss. NAU will finish the regular season at Cal Poly next Saturday as they take on the Mustangs. Kickoff is at 6:05 p.m.
