A major winter storm closed schools, business and even some highways as snow fell throughout the area Wednesday. As of noon the National Weather Service says the Flagstaff Airport picked up ten inches of snow with reports of more than a foot in the Flagstaff area. Eight inches of snow fell in Bellemont and around ten inches fell in Williams. The Williams Unified School District has already called for a snow day for Thursday. An additional three-to-five inches of snow could fall the rest of the day and in the overnight hours. The snowfall caused the closure of Interstate-40 in both directions Wednesday morning. The snow has also forced the closure of State Route 89A from Flagstaff to Sedona in both directions. A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 6 p.m. for the area, so if you have to travel tonight, please use caution.
