The number of positive cases of COVID-19 on the Navajo Nation has jumped to 14. The majority of the positive cases involve people who initially reported their symptoms to Navajo Nation health officials. Navajo Nation President Jonathan Nez has ordered a “shelter-in-place” for the Chilchinbeto community near Kayenta, where the majority of the positive tests have come from. Nez said “although there is an increase in positive tests for COVID-19, there are also a large number of people who have tested negative and some who are recovering.” He says if the numbers start to spread through the entire Navajo Nation a reservation-wide “shelter-in-place” may be needed.
