Navajo Nation Reinstates Weekend Curfew As State COVID-19 Numbers Spike

The Navajo Nation is going back into a 57-hour weekend curfew for the next two weekends as Arizona is seeing a spike in COVID-19 cases. Navajo Nation President Jonathan Nez said in a Facebook Town Hall that the reservation saw 39 new cases Tuesday, however the curfew is out of precaution. He says the spike “is a concern. We’re monitoring the cases all around us.” State health officials say there were over 25-hundred new cases of COVID-19 Tuesday, which set a new daily record since testing began in March. Nez added along with the curfew, they may “also reinstate our travel advisory maybe even go as far as a travel ban off the Navajo Nation.” The tribe has tested about 20-percent of the population and currently has a downward bend of the curve. The Navajo Nation has seen over 66-hundred positive cases with nearly 33-hundred recoveries.
