Navajo Nation Posts Highest Number Of Positive Cases Of COVID-19 To Date

The Navajo Nation has posted the highest daily number of positive cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic. Tribal health officials said Sunday there are 383 new cases of the virus reported on the reservation with five new deaths. There have now been 631 people who have died on the Navajo Nation from COVID-19 since March. Officials remind people the Navajo Nation is on a three-week stay-at-home lockdown, which is in effect 24 hours, seven days a week. The exceptions to the lockdown are essential workers heading to and from work, emergencies and to purchase essential items such as food and medicine. Stores are open from 7 a.m. until 3 p.m. President Nez said Sunday “contract tracers have told us that people that are living with us, that work off the nation, they come home and bring the virus back with them.” He says people who come back on the reservation should be wearing masks and isolating and asks those people to get a test when they get back on the Navajo Nation.
