Health officials on the Navajo Nation have confirmed the first case of the California COVID variant on the reservation. The case has been contact traced to the central part of the Navajo Nation. No additional cases containing this variant have been found. The California variant is considered highly transmissible and increases the disease’s severity. The UK variant was recently discovered in the western part of the reservation. Tribal health officials remind people to mask, practice safe distancing and wash your hands often. Also, get vaccinated when you are eligible. Vaccines have shown to work well against the most common variants of COVID and will prevent severe disease.
