NAU To Begin Fall Semester Online, In Person Instruction Pushed Back To August 31st

The fall semester at Northern Arizona University will begin on Wednesday, August 12th, but in person instruction will begin on August 31st. NAU made the announcement earlier today. Dr. Rita Cheng says she understands the community’s concern on students returning to the city during this time. She says moving in-person classes back will gives everyone time to adjust and to take care of faculty and staff and to have students “move in on a gradual basis.” Officials say NAU will use the NAUFlex online system to hold the majority of classes virtually for the first few weeks. Then in-person instruction will begin, coupled with NAUFlex delivers, on August 31st. School officials say when students return to NAU, all should be tested for COVID-19 prior to arriving and it’s mandatory if students plan to live on campus. Any student with symptoms, or has tested positive, “must not come to campus and must follow CDC guidelines for self-isolation.” Face coverings will also be required in all buildings, along with physical distancing measures. Daily self-screenings will also be required by using the NAU HealthCheck app. Faculty and staff will also go through the same protocols. They will receive a health care kit with two reusable NAU masks and hand sanitizer. For more information, log onto nau.edu.
