Around 120 students were evacuated from two buildings early Tuesday morning after a bomb threat was phoned into Flagstaff Police Department dispatch. At around 2:52 a.m., a caller told the dispatcher they needed a favor and asked for money, before telling the dispatcher they had planted a device of some kind in the area of Campus Heights on the NAU campus. NAU Police responded to search the area. During the search, officers found a suspicious-looking object in the drain pipe in the area around Campus Heights and McKay Village. An NAU Alert was sent out and the Flagstaff Police Bomb Squad was called in. Students were evacuated to the lobbies or Reily, Honors, Wilson and Allen halls in order to maintain safe distance. An explosives robot was sent in to remove the object. Shortly after 6 a.m. it was removed and determined it wasn’t an explosive and the all-clear was sent out. Students were allowed to return to the area. NAUPD is investigating the origin on the phone call.
