NAU Splits Big Sky Basketball Openers Against Northern Colorado Saturday

NAU split their opening games of its Big Sky Conference basketball season against the Northern Colorado Bears Saturday. The NAU women opened up Big Sky play in the Skydome. In a close game against Bears, the Jacks got the win, 76-72. Sophie Glancey led the Jacks with 19 points and Niyah Moran added 15 in the win. NAU forced Northern Colorado into 22 turnovers and committed just six. The Jacks will host the South Dakota State Jackrabbits Wednesday in the Big Sky/Summit League Challenge. The men started their season in Greeley, Colorado. NAU jumped out to a 12 point lead and then Northern Colorado went on a big run to lead at halftime and started the second half on a 9-0 run to pull away to win 92-77. Trent McLaughlin led the Jacks with 20 points and Diego Campisano added 12 points in the loss. A big reason for the loss was defensive play for NAU. Northern Colorado shot 69-percent from the field and 55-percent from three point range. They were also outscored 42-30 in the paint. NAU will now travel to Omaha, Nebraska to take on the Omaha Mavericks Wednesday night in the Big Sky/Summit Valley Challenge. Tip time is at 6 p.m.
