NAU Quarterback Case Cookus Named A Finalist For The Walter Payton Award

NAU quarterback Case Cookus has been named a finalist for the Walter Payton Award for the best player in FCS Football. He was named one of four finalists for the award Monday. He will travel to Frisco, Texas for the awards banquet on Friday, January 10th. The Thousand Oaks, California-native won the STATS Freshman of the Year Award in 2015 and ranks first in the FCS in passing yards with 4,114 this season. He ranks third in the nation when including FBS quarterbacks. Cookus joins Sacramento State quarterback Kevin Thomson as two of the four finalists for the award. If Cookus wins the Walter Payton Award, he would be the second Lumberjack to do so. Running back Archie Amerson won it back in 1996.
