The NAU Lumberjacks got their first Big Sky Conference football win of the season with a 48-17 trouncing of Idaho State Saturday in the Skydome. True freshman quarterback R.J. Martinez showed why he was coveted by NAU out of high school. He was 26-of-45 for 369 and three touchdowns in the air and also rushed for 57 yards and a touchdown in the win. One of Martinez’ favorite targets was wide receiver Jamal Glaspie who had 11 catches for 167 yards and two touchdowns for NAU. Wide receiver Coleman Owen had four catches for 136 yards and two touchdowns, including an 80 yard touchdown late in the second half. NAU finished with 648 yards of total offense. It’s the 14th straight win over Idaho State in Flagstaff. The last time the Bengals won at NAU was in 1984. NAU improves to 2-3 overall and 1-1 in the Big Sky. The Jacks are off next week for the bye week and will return to action Saturday, October 16th for Homecoming Weekend against the Southern Utah Thunderbirds. Kickoff is at 1 p.m.
