NAU Men’s Cross Country Wins Its Third National Title, NAU Women Finish Sixth Saturday

The NAU men’s cross country team won its third straight national championship Saturday at the NCAA Cross Country Championships in Stillwater, Oklahoma, for the second time in school history, but it sure wasn’t easy. Nico Young and Drew Bosley ran a great race, sitting in the top three from start to finish, exchanging leads, but Nico finished second and Drew finished third, as Stanford’s Charlie Hicks won the race. However, it was the team that needed to finish it out. NAU took over the race lead after five-kilometers, but at the end host Oklahoma State caught the Jacks. However, the race finished in an 83-83 tie, which is the closest finish in NCAA history. It went to a head-to-head tie breaker and George Kushner’s finish was the one that won the race for NAU. The dynasty has won six national titles in the last seven years. On the women’s side, Elise Stearns was near the top of the pack through most of the race. She finished in fourth place as NAU finished sixth as a team, which is the best finish for the NAU women’s team since 1991. Congratulations goes out to both men’s and women’s cross country teams on their performance.
