NAU Mens And Womens Hoops Teams Fall Saturday Night

The NAU men’s and women’s basketball teams were in action on Saturday. The women were at home against the Lancers of Cal Baptist. The Lancers came into the game with a 5-2 record and a top-60 RPI. NAU and Cal Baptist were tied at 19 after the first quarter. Then the Lancers shut down NAU, outscoring the Jacks 26-11 in the second en route to a 89-72 win over the Jacks. Coconino alum J.J. Nakai made her season debut Saturday and led the Jacks with 13 points and Regan Schenck came close to a triple-double with nine points, eight rebounds and seven assists in the loss. NAU is back at home Monday night against Cal Poly. Tip time is at 6 p.m. The men were in Vermillion, South Dakota to battle the South Dakota Coyotes. Both teams went back and fourth and settled it in overtime. The Coyotes outscored NAU in overtime 16-11 to win 76-71. Guard Jalen Cone scored a career-high 33 points, including seven three-pointers, Nik Mains added 13 and Carson Towt snagged 18 rebounds in the loss. NAU will be back on the court Saturday at Footprint Center in Phoenix to take on the University of San Diego. Tip time is at 8 p.m.
