A motorcyclist was airlifted with serious injuries after colliding with a pickup truck on State Route 89 in Chino Valley Tuesday. Chino Valley officers arrived to the scene in the 37-hundred block of State Route 89 at around 3:08 p.m. to find the 61-year-old motorcyclist, from Ashfork, down in the roadway. The 60-year-old truck driver, from Chino Valley, was not injured in the collision. Officials say the motorcycle was traveling southbound on State Route 89 when a truck pulled onto the highway from a driveway with intent to travel southbound as well. Witnesses on the scene told authorities the motorcycle was travelling at a high rate of speed when he approached the pickup truck. The motorcycle attempted to go around the truck but instead clipped the rear passenger side, causing the motorcycle to lose control. The motorcycle eventually came to a stop over 80 feet away from the initial contact point. State Route 89 traffic was completely stopped for several minutes while a helicopter landed on the roadway to transport the motorcyclist to a local hospital for treatment. The investigation is ongoing and no charges have been filed.
