Monsoon Season Predicted To Start Earlier Than Normal In Arizona

The Monsoon Season may start a little earlier than normal this year in Arizona. Arizona Department of Environmental Quality Meteorologist Matt Pace says there are a few reasons why it might start early. He says, “it might set up a little early because we haven’t seen a lot of snowpack in the west, which allows that high to set up a lot quicker.” Pace adds, “then during La Nina conditions typically we can see more active weather.” The National Weather Service has designated June 15th through September 30th as Monsoon Season, but the state usually sees an actual beginning to the monsoon closer to the Fourth of July. Pace predicts this year’s monsoon season will start in late June with a wetter and warmer summer than usual.
