McConnell Drive Closed In Flagstaff For Bridge Work

McConnell Drive in Flagstaff will be closed starting today as ADOT crews get a jump on work on the Interstate-17 bridge over the road. McConnell Drive will be closed around the clock until May 1st. The road will reopen on May 2nd, but only from 7 p.m. until 5 a.m. daily. From June 1st through August 17th McConnell will close again, as will the I-17 off-ramp. ADOT is advising drivers trying to reach NAU, to take Milton Road to University Drive and then on to campus. Due to reduced traffic at NAU due to the school going to online services, ADOT and the contractor decided to start work now instead of waiting until the summer. This will allow for the project to finish ahead of schedule. The project involves a fill bridge deck replacement, bridge widening and sidewalk construction on the north side of McConnell Drive, which has been ongoing for a couple of weeks. This project, coupled with the Fourth Street bridge expansion ongoing in Interstate-40, is a few of the projects slated for the area over the summer.
